FAQs

What should I wear to my appointment?

Consider a low-collared shirt that will be okay if any mistakes happen. I like to consider myself a tidy artist, but mistakes do happen on occasion.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Consider how long your appointment is projected to be. Maybe bring a snack or your favorite beverage. What hair styles do you gravitate towards? Inspiration photos are helpful when trying to understand exactly what you like.

Where do I park?

At Monarch Salon, we have parking along the side of the building on Fox’s Alley as well as the 4 spaces behind our building.

Why does my hair feel so dry, my scalp feels oily, or my color gets so “brassy”?

Consider the water you wash your hair with or swim in and how often those activities are taking place. Is it filtered water or full of minerals or chemicals? This can strip your hair and scalp of the oils you produce naturally, leading to an over-production of said oils on the scalp and minimal oils in the lengths causing dryness. Over washing will strip away your color investment. Minerals and chemicals can also deposit into your hair causing buildup, dryness, and discoloration. Ask me during your next appointment for solutions.

Consider medications, medical challenges, pregnancy, and age. These can play a part in hormone activity and directly effects hair, skin, and nails.

How often should I get my hair touched up?

For root color, 6-8 week appointments are common.

For hair cuts, shorter hair shows detail more quickly than long hair… ideally, appointment re-visits can be from 3 to 12 week intervals.

For highlights, if you like your highlights to appear as though they come straight from the scalp, keep in mind that on-average hair grows about a 1/2 inch per month, so ideally you would return for touch-ups every 6-8 weeks. Otherwise, you may consider shadow-root services or a lived-in highlight application to lessen the harsh regrowth line and prolong time between highlight appointments.

How often should I get waxed?

Typical facial wax intervals range from 3-6 weeks.
